1. The short version
DocScanly is designed as a local-first document scanner. Your scans, folders and generated PDF files are stored on your device unless you choose to share or export them. You do not need to create a DocScanly account.
Document text is sent to our AI service only when you deliberately use a Pro AI action such as summarize, ask or translate. Free-tier users do not send document content to the cloud AI service.
2. Information we process
Documents and scans
Camera images, imported photos, OCR text, document names, folders and generated PDFs are processed to provide scanning and organization features. These items remain in the app's local storage unless you export them or use an AI feature.
Device permissions
Camera access is used to scan pages. Photo library access is used only when you choose to import an image. You can revoke these permissions in iOS Settings.
Technical and usage information
Our service providers may process limited technical information such as IP address, general location derived from IP, device and advertising identifiers, app interactions, crash information and performance diagnostics, depending on your region, consent choices and device settings.
Support requests
When you use our contact form, we process your name, email address, selected topic and message so we can answer your request. Do not include confidential documents, passwords or payment information.
3. Optional AI features
For Pro users, DocScanly offers document summaries, questions and translation. When you initiate one of these actions, the relevant OCR text, your request, response language and an anonymous subscription identifier are transmitted through our Cloudflare-hosted service to OpenAI for processing.
- AI requests are initiated by you; document content is not uploaded in the background.
- The service verifies an active RevenueCat entitlement and applies a daily quota before contacting OpenAI.
- OpenAI API responses are requested with application-state storage disabled. Service providers may retain limited data when required for security, abuse prevention or legal compliance under their own terms.
- AI output can be incomplete or inaccurate. Verify important legal, medical, financial or other high-impact information independently.

4. Advertising and consent
Free users may see ads supplied by Google AdMob, including banner, native, interstitial, app-open and voluntarily initiated rewarded ads. Premium users do not see ads.
DocScanly does not request Apple's App Tracking Transparency permission and is configured to request non-personalized ads. Publisher first-party identifiers are disabled. Google may still process information necessary for limited or non-personalized advertising, frequency controls, fraud prevention, aggregated reporting and legal compliance.
Where required, Google User Messaging Platform asks for consent before ads are requested and provides a privacy-options entry point in the app. Your available choices depend on your region. See Google's Privacy Policy.
5. Subscriptions and purchases
Purchases are processed by Apple through your App Store account. We do not receive your full payment-card details. RevenueCat processes an anonymous app user identifier, product identifiers, purchase status, renewal and entitlement information so DocScanly can unlock Pro features and restore purchases.
6. Legal bases and disclosures
Depending on your location, we process information to perform our contract with you, provide features you request, comply with legal obligations, protect our service from fraud and abuse, and—where required—based on your consent. We do not sell document contents. We may disclose information to the processors named above, to authorities where legally required, or in connection with a corporate restructuring subject to appropriate safeguards.
Service providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, appropriate transfer safeguards are used.
7. Retention and deletion
- Local documents: remain until you delete them in the app, clear app data or uninstall DocScanly.
- AI requests: processed for the requested response and handled under the applicable retention and security rules of Cloudflare and OpenAI.
- Subscription records: retained by Apple and RevenueCat as needed to manage purchases, entitlements, fraud prevention, accounting and legal obligations.
- Advertising data: retained by Google according to your choices and Google's policies.
Because DocScanly has no user account, we may be unable to identify local data on your device. Deleting the app removes its local app container; exported copies remain wherever you saved them.
8. Your choices and rights
You can deny camera or photo access, avoid AI features, choose not to watch rewarded ads, manage regional advertising choices inside the app, delete local documents, cancel a subscription in your Apple ID settings and contact us regarding privacy requests.
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. We may need information to verify and route a request to the relevant provider.
9. Children
DocScanly is a general-audience productivity app and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through an account system.
10. Security and changes
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted HTTPS connections and server-side subscription validation. No system is completely secure. We may update this policy as the product or applicable law changes; the effective date above will be revised when we do.
